Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund April Grant Round is Open

Mr. Greg Sudderth, Chair of the Grants Committee of the Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund (UPSF & W), a fund of the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula, announced today that it will be accepting grant applications for the April 2022 grants round.

He stated, “Eligible non-profit organizations and sub-divisions of government are eligible to submit applications to the community foundation for grants that meet the guidelines of the UPSF & W Fund.”

Grant applications can be obtained at the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula located at 2420 1st Avenue South Escanaba, Michigan; the foundations website www.cfup.org; by calling the foundation’s office at 1-906-789-5972 or e-mailing office@cfup.org.

Those interested in obtaining a grant must have an original and three (3) copies turned into the community foundation office prior to 3:30 P.M. (EST) on Friday, April 1st, 2022, otherwise your request may not be considered.

All those requesting grants from the foundation will be notified in writing, as to whether or not they have been successful in receiving their grant request. Members of the UPSF & W Committee will make their grant recommendations to the full board of trustees of the foundation at their regularly scheduled board meeting at the end of April 2022, for their approval.

2021 Pro-Active Grants Announcement

Community Foundation for Delta County Executive Director, Mrs. Cheryl Andzejewski announced today that the Board of Trustees awarded pro-active grants to the following organizations:

 

Bay College -  Food Pantry

MDS Community Action Agency – Senior Home Heating Program

The Salvation Army – Food Pantry

St. Vincent de Paul in Escanaba – Food Pantry

St. Vincent de Paul in Gladstone – Food Pantry

New Harvest – Soup Kitchen

New Harvest – Food Pantry

 

            Mrs. Andzejewski stated, “The board felt it was important to provide financial support to local food pantries, soup kitchen as well as the MDS Community Action Agency Senior Home Heating Program.  We are very fortunate to have the economic resources that our donors provided to the foundation so we can help the less fortunate in our community.  Mrs. Andzejewski thanked the recipients and their organizations for all their hard work and dedication in the community”.  

 

            The recipients “thanked” the community foundation and stated, “We are so grateful to the community foundation for these pro-active grants and the positive impact the community foundation makes in our community.”

2021 UPPER PENINSULA SUSTAINABLE FOREST & WILDLIFE FUND GRANT AWARDEE

            Mr. Charlie Becker, Chair of the Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund (UPSF & W) Grants Committee, announced that the Escanaba Rotary Trust Fund for Children with Special Needs was a recipient of their Fall 2021 Grants Round for their Multi Use Field Project. 

 “Our committee is grateful for the foresight of the former Mead Corporation for their desire to have a partnership with their employees; sportsmen and sportswomen and the youth of the Upper Peninsula.  We are proud to be a committee under the auspices of the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula,” commented Mr. Becker.  He continued, “It is our mission to foster a better understanding of our forests and wildlife as well as assist U. P. residents, including our youth, to become more active and enjoy the outdoors as much as is possible.  The Escanaba Rotary Trust Fund for Children with Special Needs is in collaboration with the Northern Lights YMCA who runs their Camp Harstad programs in Ford River.  Camp Harstad offers children with both physical and mental challenges a place to go and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.  The new 8,000 square foot multi use field project will offer a variety of physical outdoor activities like, soccer, volleyball, kickball, just to name a few, ”commented Mr. Becker.

 Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula President, Mrs. Cheryl Andzejewski stated, “The foundation feels privileged to hold the Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund and are proud of all the good they do in the U. P.” She continued, “They truly care about the residents of the Upper Peninsula and in educating and offering healthy outdoor activities for individuals and families to enjoy.”

 

 

 

Fall 2021 Grant Recipients

Mr. Robert Van Damme, Board Chair and Mr. Will Carne, Sr., Grants Committee Chair, of the Community Foundation for Delta County jointly announced the community foundation’s Fall of 2021 Grants round recipients. 

 

The following organizations receiving grants are:

 

  • Delta County Rescue Task Force – Protective equipment and medical equipment needed for use by every EMS Agency in Delta County

  • City of Escanaba – Brush hog for West Side Recreation Area

  • Escanaba Seventh Day Adventist Community and Food Community – Food Pantry

  • New Life Assembly of God – Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) for the Community Center and Church

  • Big brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area – COVID Relief for BBBS of the Bay Area

 

Pro-Active Grant recipients are:

2021 YAC Grants Awarded

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) of the Community Foundation for Delta County, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula, announces the recipients of their Fall 2021 grants round.

The following organizations awarded grants are:

· Big Bay de Noc School District – Student Lounge

· Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area – Program Support of BBBS of the Bay Area

· City of Escanaba, Catherine Bonifas Civic Center – After School Program

· Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, Inc. – Girl Scout Support and Leadership Experience in Delta County

Community Foundation for Delta County Executive Director, Mrs. Cheryl Andzejewski stated, “The foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee is made up of a bunch of very impressive young adults that want to help make a difference. They give of their time to make our community a better place to learn, play and live for its residents and visitors.”

The grant round will “open” on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, all completed applications, and its requirements must be received by the community foundation no later than 3:30 P.M. The Community Foundation for Delta County is kicking off their week-long Legacy Fundraiser (formerly known as MASH)! The Community Foundation for Delta County provides financial support for programs aimed at solving community problems and enhancing life in Delta County. The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) announced today they are now accepting grant applications for its October 2021, grants round.  Eligible non-profit organizations and sub-divisions of government are eligible to submit applications to the YAC for grants”.

             Grant applications can be obtained at the community foundation office at

 2420 1st Avenue South Escanaba, Michigan 49829, by calling the foundation’s office at 1-906-786-6654, e-mailing a request for a YAC grant application to office@cfup.org or from the foundation’s website at www.cffdc.org.

             Those interested in obtaining a grant must have an original and eight (8) copies of the application turned in to the community foundation office by 3:30 p. m. (EST) on Friday, October 1st, 2021 otherwise your request may not be considered.

Delta Animal Shelter receives grant from The Community Foundation for DeltaCounty

Ms. Piper, Shelter Guest, Tonya Gartland, Event Coordinator and Sue Gartland, Executive Director of the Delta Animal Shelter are presented a check for $1,000 from Will Carne, Sr, Community Foundation for Delta County Board Member, from their April Grant round for improvements needed in the shelter’s Grooming Room.

 

Tonya commented, “We are so grateful to the Community Foundation for Delta County Grants Committee and Board for approving our grant request for our much needed Grooming Room improvements.”

 

Ms. Piper didn’t have anything to say but Sue mentioned that this adorable 5 year old basset hound is looking for a loving family and a new couch to rest and cuddle up with her new family on.

 Will stated, “On behalf of myself and the other community foundation board members, we are happy to help the Delta Animal Shelter with their grooming room improvements.”   He continued, “They service many animals in need and good grooming is important in the care of them.”

Delta Regional Child Advocacy Center Receives a Grant from the Community Foundation for Delta County

Community Foundation for Delta County Executive Director, Mrs. Cheryl Andzejewski, presents a check from the Community Foundation for Delta County and its Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) from their April Grants round for $1,500.00 to the Delta Regional Child Advocacy Center Forensic Interviewer, Ms. Melissa Middaugh and Miss Kelly Chandler, Program Director to help with the center’s needs.

 Ms. Middaugh stated, “We are very grateful to the Community Foundation for Delta County and their Youth Advisory Committee for their generosity in awarding the grants we submitted to help aid in our center needs.”

 “The Delta Regional Child Advocacy Center serves many people and we find ourselves needing assistance with center needs including providing emergency relief for families as well as educational materials.  The community foundation and its Youth Advisory Committee grants will help us with the services we provide,” commented Miss Chandler.  She continued, “We are holding our Amazing Race for the Child Advocacy on August 3 thru August 6 this year.  Visit our website for more information on how to register or donate.”

Camp Harstad-Receives a Grant from the Community Foundation for Delta County

Community Foundation for Delta County Board Members, Mr. Todd Maki and Mr. Will Carne, Sr, as well as, Board Chair, Mr. Bob Van Damme presents a check from the Community Foundation for Delta County April Grants round for $2,000.00 to the Escanaba Rotary Trust Fund for Children with Special Needs – Camp Harstad Counselors and Campers for their Summer Camp Program needs.

 “The Camp Harstad Counselors commented, “We are so grateful to the Community Foundation for Delta County Grant Committee and Board for approving our grant request for our Camp Harstad Summer Camp Program.” They continued, “We are still feeling the effects of COVID-19 issues and this grant will truly make a difference in helping us meet our campers needs.  The community foundation fits in perfectly with our Rotary motto, “service above self”.

 Mr. Van Damme stated, “On behalf of myself and the other community foundation board members, we are happy to help such a great program that offers children with special needs and disabilities a learning and fun filled summer program.”  He continued, “The Escanaba Rotary Trust Fund for Children with Special Needs Board oversees Camp Harstad and everyone involved does a fantastic job.  We are proud of their work and success in helping children.”
